austin texas restaurant recipes #best

1. biscuits & pan gravy from Salt Lick BBQ cookbook [photography of biscuits by Kenny Braun]  2. east side king thai chicken karaage [photo credit julesln] (if you’re in ATX, make it a POINT to also try brussels sprouts)  3. texas okra from contigo  4. italian sausage sandwich by the noble pig, pretty much recognized as the best sandwich spot in the u.s.  5. close to Kerbey Lane queso (though we still <3 rotel & velveeta for old school version) 6. La Condesa breakfast margarita [F. Martin Ramin for The Wall Street Journal, Food Styling by Karen Evans, Styling by Anne Cardenas]   7. king ranch chicken   8. migas – Cisco’s are our favorite [photo Robert Sietsama] but this is a nice dupe

and if you are lucky enough to be at sxsw and you’ve got a non-hungover afternoon to spare, within an hours drive: 1. lockhart bbq  2. strudel or kolaches at naegelin’s in new braunfels  3. cold beer & shuffleboard at riley’s  4. welfare cafe is rich in game foods & wine  5. CFS (chicken fried steak, y’all!) at hilltop cafe, fredericksburg
