inspired by… Outside the Lines

My ideal party would be colorful, sweet, and creative inspired by my recently released book, OUTSIDE THE LINES: An Artists’ Coloring Book for Giant Imaginations. I created a rainbow art party for my daughter, Lulu’s fourth birthday and still feel excited by that day:

Decor & Pinspiration
Colorful paper lanterns – (I made my paper lanterns a la Martha Stewart)
Craft paper
Fresh cut flowers
Mixed color paper straws
Rainbow colored cups

Playlist Suggestions
songs about rainbows

Rainbow bow tie pasta
Fruits and veggies in a rainbow shape
I made the Barefoot Contessa’s coconut cake. It’s not the cake shown in the photos (by a family friend), but I split the batter and used food safe dyes to create different colored layers.
or, Rainbow layered cupcakes – my friend Sherise’s recipe
Colorful meringues
Italian shaved ice

Drink Menu
Lemonade in different fruit flavors (strawberry, kiwi, mango, etc.)

Face painting

We’re ecstatic that curator, hustler of culture, smart girl and tiny iron fists Mama, Souris Hong-Porretta, would contribute this exhuberant idea for a party. Lulu is one lucky little lady! Outside the Lines is an amazing collection of illustrations by some of our favorite contemporary artists – a visual treat no matter your age – much like this colorful celebration.

Thanks, Souris!
